Nintendo’s Mario has been around since 1981 but what is Mario without his cast of colorful and familiar faces? Just another plumber I suppose. Among this cast we have Princess peach, bowser, Toad, and Luigi. Also among this case is the green dinosaur, Yoshi. Created to be Mario’s loyal stead, he appeared in super Mario world. Very popular among the players, Yoshi became the center of the sequel, Super Mario world 2: Yoshi’s Island.
Despites its name, the game is chronologically the prequel to all other games in the Mario bro’s timeline. It also has very little to do with the previous Super Mario World. This one was unique because of its plot and as well as unique music to company the feel they were trying to get. The player plays as various Yoshi’s, trying to reunite the lost Babies (Mario & Luigi) after they were kidnapped by the evil magikoopa.
The overall feel was very soft and childlike. The creator’s choice of making the graphic appear as if they were made in crayon was to me, a very good choice. The music was composed by Koji Konda. The sound effects used were harsh in contrast to the light hearted music. (Ex: The loud cries of baby Mario) I would speculate this was made that way so the player would be more alert when they had lost the baby and ready to grab him back.
